Nice to meet you!
My name is Paulius. I am a graphic designer, specializing in branding, packaging design and illustration. I started my career in 2015 working as a branding designer and illustrator.
My story:
At the age of 13, I first downloaded the photoshop program to my computer, which started my whole path towards a career as a designer. I admit that the very first thing I tried to do was to change the color of the car in the photo, at that time it seemed like a very complicated and impossible thing, but now it takes me a few minutes to do it.
I discovered my own career as a graphic designer while playing computer games, where I noticed a section related to graphic design in an online forum. I was always interested in how such work is done, so after research I discovered such an existing profession that attracted me. Next, I spent a year learning how to work with various Adobe programs and uploaded the graphics I created to the same forum. After receiving good reviews, I decided to take a more serious look at the profession and get out of the gaming forum into the real world.
My first attempt to create started with a website that existed in Lithuania at the time, where various companies could announce tenders for some kind of graphic design work. I became particularly interested in creating logos, which I still do today. Little did I know then that it would become my daily routine. The beginning of participating in competitions was difficult, I spent a year learning about what graphic design is in general and what its function is and only after some time I started to understand about it and I noticed that I started doing better and better in competitions. I won the very first competition in 2016, it was the creation of the logo for the newly established restaurant "Cheat meal lovers". At that time, it was still hard to believe that somewhere on the street there would be a sign with my logo. Over time, there were more of those winning competitions, both in Europe and the USA.
In 2018, I got a job in my first workplace, it is the FinTech company "SpectroCoin". I worked as a junior graphic designer. At that time, I was still studying at school, so the working time was not half-time, but the desire to improve in this profession was stronger than giving time to school. I worked there for almost 2 years until I graduated. This was followed by admission to the Vilnius Academy of Arts.
The academy gave me a very strong understanding that accuracy, impact and function of the message being conveyed are paramount in the graphic design profession. And only after that come aesthetics and other things. It has significantly adjusted my understanding of how work should be done in a much more professional manner. I worked as a freelance designer for half of the study period, of course I still work there, but at the end of the second year I got a job at CityBee, the leading car sharing company in the Baltic countries. I am very happy to work here because I have a great passion for cars, so there is probably nothing better than combining work with a hobby. Also, while working at CityBee, I learned how to combine business needs with design, in other words, what marketing is and how it should work from the visual side.
