“Ruta” packaging design
“Ruta” is one of the oldest confectionery factories in Lithuania, founded in 1913 in Siauliai. From the very beginning, the factory became renowned for its high-quality chocolate and candies, preserving traditional recipes and methods. “Rūta” offers a wide range of chocolates, caramel candies, dragees, and other sweets made from natural ingredients. Today, “Rūta” is not only a guardian of history and tradition but also an innovative company that adapts to modern consumer needs by offering new flavors and products.
Client needs:
The client's idea is to create a candy set for couples, incorporating a themed game that lovers can play together. The set should contain 30 candies, requiring unconventional book-style packaging. The design should match "Rūta’s" visual identity, reflecting luxury and elegance.
About the design:
The packaging design was initiated at the request of the Vilnius Academy of Arts, with a competition in which this design emerged as the winner. The process began with the creation of the game, ultimately selecting the "30 Hypothetical Questions" game, designed to help partners learn more about each other. Inside the packaging, each question is hidden beneath scratch-off panels. After answering a question, the couple can enjoy a chocolate. The questions are specifically tailored for couples. The next steps involved developing the packaging design and naming it "It's Sweet to Be Together." Since the product is primarily aimed at the Lithuanian market, the Lithuanian name "Saldu kartu," meaning "Sweet Together," was chosen for its thematic fit and wordplay. The design process took over a year, with various design versions created before finalizing this one.
